About

Jessica Skys, a sixteen-year-old from Homer, Mississippi, outwardly projects an image of popularity and success as captain of her high school’s cheerleading, track, and basketball teams. While her friends Jan and Michelle discuss their ambitious post-graduation plans for college and entrepreneurship, Jessica’s own future is constrained by her home life. She is largely responsible for maintaining her parents’ household and caring for her younger brother, Bobby, a burden stemming from an abusive upbringing. Despite her responsibilities, Jessica harbors a powerful dream: to escape her current circumstances and become her own boss, dedicated to helping other victims of childhood abuse. Her journey toward this goal is bolstered by a strong support network consisting of her best friends, Jan and Michelle, her grandmother Inez, and her Godparents, Danny and Rosie.

With the guidance and unwavering support of her grandmother and Godparents, Jessica finds the strength and resources to confront the trauma of her past. This internal battle allows her to break free from the cycle of abuse she has endured. Having overcome her own challenges, Jessica is then able to channel her experiences and newfound independence into making a tangible difference in the lives of others who have faced similar abuse, fulfilling her dream of becoming a source of hope and empowerment.
